What are World Models (without the jargon)

Let’s take a simple example.

Before building a house, you look at a model.

You walk through it.

You check the layout.

You imagine living inside it.

You make changes before spending money.

Now imagine doing the same thing for your business.

A world model creates a working, virtual version of your operations.

‎

It takes your data, your processes, your constraints, and builds a space where decisions can be tested before they are executed.

Instead of asking, “What should I do?”, you start asking, “What happens if I do this?”

That is a very different level of thinking.

Why this matters now

For the last two years, AI has been focused on language. Writing emails. Summarizing reports. Generating ideas.

Useful, yes. Transformational, not always.

‎

Because the real value in business is not in writing better emails. It is in making better decisions under uncertainty.

What happens if demand suddenly spikes?
What happens if your supplier fails?
What happens if you change pricing or layout or capacity?

‎

These are not questions you can answer well with text alone.
They require understanding cause and effect.

World models bring that missing layer.

They allow AI to simulate how your business behaves, not just describe it.

Where this shows up in real business

This is not theoretical. The use cases are already clear.

You observe what is happening.
You think about what could happen next.
You decide what to do.

World models simply strengthen the middle step.

They turn “thinking” into “testing”.

Instead of guessing outcomes, you simulate them.

What leaders should actually do

The mistake most companies make is trying to start too big.

This is not where you begin.

You start with one decision. One area where mistakes are costly.

It could be supply chain planning.
It could be a store layout.
It could be pricing or demand forecasting.

“Can we simulate this before we execute it?”

“As you can see,” he said, “the team has fully embraced the new Enterprise licenses. We are disrupting the workflow.”

The CEO didn’t smile. He leaned forward, looked past the executive, and pointed to a Junior Marketing Manager in the back row.
‎

“Ahmed,” the CEO said. “You’re part of that 92%. Tell me one specific business outcome you ‘disrupted’ this week using the new tool.”
‎

The room went silent. You could hear the AC humming.
‎

Ahmed shifted in his chair, looked at his feet, and stammered, “Well… I used it to polish the today’s QBR invite.”
‎

The air left the room.
‎

Here was a company spending tens of thousands of Dirhams on advanced infrastructure. And they are hitting a strategic KPI to “Be Disruptive.”
‎
Yet, in practice, are were using the most powerful tool in human history as a spell-checker.
‎

This isn’t Ahmed’s fault. It’s a leadership failure.
‎

Most companies I walk into are suffering from this exact delusion. They confuse access with application.

They believe that if they buy the tools, the “disruption” will naturally follow.

But the data tells a different story.
‎

Ahmed’s lunch invite isn’t an anomaly. It is a symptom of vague goals.

The Smart Tool Paradox

Most leadership teams treat AI as a plug-and-play software update. They think if they get the math right, the business will follow.
‎

But math is the smallest part of the equation.

‎
To actually disrupt your market, you need to understand The 10/20/70 Rule (BCG):

• 10% is the Algorithm: The LLM itself (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini).

• 20% is the Technology: The infrastructure, data pipelines, and IT integration.

• 70% is Business Process Transformation: The people, the workflows, and the change management.

The CEO in my story spent 100% of his budget on the first 30%. He ignored the 70%.

If your “Disruption” strategy is just buying ChatGPT Enterprise, you haven’t bought disruption. You have bought a gym membership for a team that doesn’t know how to lift weights.

The “Arsonist” Approach to Disruption

When the C-Suite yells “Disruption!”, the workforce often hears “Layoffs.”

And they aren’t entirely wrong.

“Disruption” is synonymous with “cost-cutting via headcount” today.

We saw this in 2025, where firms cut over 130,000 tech workers citing AI restructuring as the cause.

‎

But this is “Arsonist” leadership, not architectural leadership.

‎

If you fire people faster than you can automate their roles, you create a “Persistence Gap.”

• You burn down institutional knowledge.

• Destroy culture.

• And erode trust before the AI is capable of filling the void.

Real AI leaders don’t use tech to replace humans.

They use it to “augment” capacity. Giving a junior employee the output of a senior manager, rather than firing the junior employee to save a salary.

The “Be Disruptive” KPI Trap

“Be Disruptive” is the most ambigious KPI on a balanced scorecard.
It is entirely subjective.

I see Department Heads chasing shiny objects all the time.
Hackathons, pilot programs, cool image generators.
All this just to prove they are “being disruptive” during their quarterly review.
‎

This is activity, not achievement.
‎

We need a metric makeover.
You cannot manage what you cannot measure, and you cannot measure “vibes.”
‎

Serious AI leaders don’t use vague words like “Disruption”.

They look for objective wins.
‎

• Reducing legal contract review time by 60%.

• Increasing customer support ticket resolution by 30%,.

• Automating supply chain forecasting.

‎ ‎

If you can’t put a number on it, it’s not a strategy; it’s a science project.

‎

The Safety Net Problem

There is a belief in the startup world that “guardrails kill speed.”

Corporate leaders often think that to be disruptive, they need to remove all red tape.

‎

The opposite is true. In a corporate environment, guardrails create speed.

Without clear ethical and data boundaries, your employees will be paralyzed by fear.

They’ll never use the tools out of fear.

• What if they accidentally leak data?

• What if they make something thats super non-compliant?

• What if they produce something may get them sued?

‎

A 2024 Adecco report stressed that a clear ethical framework is a prerequisite for success. When you define the “Safety Lanes”, you give your team the psychological safety to run fast.

How to Fix the “People” Part

If 70% of success is people and process, that is where 70% of your energy needs to go.

‎

Most leaders delegate this to HR or IT and forget about it. That is a mistake. As a leader, you must manage the “human integration” of these tools.

‎

Here is the 3-step framework I use with my corporate clients to close the gap.

Step 1: The Process Audit

The single biggest mistake companies make is layering AI on top of broken workflows.

As Gates said “automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.”

‎

If your reporting process is bureaucratic, confusing, and slow.

If you keep producing long PDFs that nobody reads.

And you use AI to generate that report in 5 seconds instead of 5 hours, you haven’t created value. You have simply automated waste.

‎

Before you hand out licenses, you must perform a “Workflow Dissection.”

How to do it:

1. Isolate the Task: Pick one high-volume activity (e.g., Monthly Client Reporting).

2. Map the Steps: Write down every human touchpoint required to finish that task.

3. Identify the “Bloat”: Circle the steps that exist only because of legacy systems or “we’ve always done it this way.”

4. Simplify First, Automate Second: Delete the bloat. optimize the human process first. Only once the process is lean do you inject the AI.

The Golden Rule: Never use AI to speed up a process you wouldn’t be proud to show your board of directors manually.

‎

Step 2: The Mindset Shift

The reason Ahmed (from our story) didn’t use the tool effectively wasn’t laziness. It was likely fear.

‎

When employees hear “AI Efficiency,” they subconsciously translate it to “Job Redundancy.” This triggers self-preservation.

They will either hide how they work, or they will perform “weaponized incompetence”. They’ll pretend that the tool doesn’t work so they can keep doing things the old way.

‎

You need to change the narrative in your town halls. Stop talking about “Disruption.” Start talking about “The Boredom Audit.”
‎

The Action Plan:

Ask your team to list the tasks they hate. The data entry. The meeting summarization. The formatting of slides. The sorting of Excel rows.

‎

Then, frame AI as the “Boredom Killer.”

‎

Tell them: “My goal is not to automate YOU. My goal is to automate the parts of your job that you despise, so you can spend more time on strategy and creativity.”

‎

When you position AI as a tool that gives them their time back (rather than a tool that takes their paycheck away) then they’ll see AI as tool and not enemy.

‎

Step 3: Establish Guardrails, Not Gates

Traditional IT departments operate on a “Gate” model.

• Can I use this tool? No.

• Can I upload this PDF? Submit a ticket.

• Can I try this prompt? Wait for approval.

‎

Gates kill speed. In the age of AI, if you move slowly, you are already dead. But if you move fast without safety, you risk a PR disaster or a data leak.

The solution is “Guardrails.”

‎

Think of a highway.

You don’t put a gate every 100 meters to check if drivers are safe.

You put guardrails on the side so they can drive at 120 km/h without flying off the cliff.

‎

The Traffic Light Protocol:

Implement a simple 3-tier data policy for your team:

🟢 Green Lane (Public Data):

• Anything already on your website, marketing materials, or public domain.

• Rule: Use freely with any approved AI tool.

‎

🟡 Yellow Lane (Internal Work):

• Internal memos, drafts, brainstorming.

• Rule: Use only with Enterprise accounts (data privacy mode on).

‎

🔴 Red Lane (Toxic Data):

• PII (Personal Identifiable Information), Salary data, Client financial records.

• Rule: NEVER upload to an LLM.

‎

Once this protocol is clear, step back.

Give your team the autonomy to run fast in the Green and Yellow lanes.

I was on a Zoom call recently with the CISO of a large, multibillion-dollar enterprise.
‎

We were discussing the bottlenecks in his organization.
‎
It wasn’t the budget.
It wasn’t a lack of talent.
It was the “Business As Usual” trap.
‎

He told me that his leadership team was overwhelmed by operations. They were spending all their energy keeping the lights on. But the real problem surfaced whenever he tried to push them toward AI innovation.
‎

Their excuse was always the same: “We can’t start yet. Our data isn’t clean enough.”
‎

That’s when the CISO shared a perspective that every leader needs to hear.
‎

He told me about the F-16 fighter jet. That plane flies at supersonic speeds. Relying on sensors that are constantly dealing with noise, interference, and imperfect data. It doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. It adjusts and executes.

He connected it with his situation.
‎

“If a fighter jet, something that deals with life risks, can operate with imperfect data... Why are we stopping our business innovation because of imperfect spreadsheets?”

He is right.

The Insight

The CISO was right about the fighter jet. But the problem in most organizations runs deeper than just bad habits.
‎

If you look at why your team is stalling, you’ll find 3 distinct traps disguised as “strategy.”
‎

To move forward, dismantle them one-by-one.

1. The Psychological Trap

In many boardrooms, “Waiting for data quality” is a sophisticated way of saying “I am afraid.”
‎

For a middle manager, the safest place to be is in the “Preparation Phase.” As long as they are “cleaning the data” or “auditing the warehouse,” they cannot fail.
‎

They are busy.

They are spending their budgets.

But they are not exposed to risk.
‎

The moment they launch a live model, they will get exposed. What if the AI hallucinates? What if it gives a wrong answer to a client?
‎

So, they use Data Governance as a shield. They set a standard for perfection that is impossible to reach to never have to face the risk of launching. It looks like prudence, but it is actually paralysis.

2. The Technical Trap

For the last 20 years, we taught our teams that software is fragile. We raised a generation of managers on Excel and SQL.
‎

In that world, Deterministic Logic rules.
‎

If you format one cell in your spreadsheet as text instead of a number, the entire financial model breaks. If your SQL query has one typo, the database returns an error. Perfection wasn’t a luxury; it was a need for the system to function at all.

‎
But AI operates on Probabilistic Logic.

‎
Modern LLMs and Machine Learning systems are designed to be resilient. Engineers build them to function like a human brain. They look at the context, ignore the noise, and find the signal.

‎
When you demand 100% clean data before starting an AI pilot, you are applying the rules of 90s in 2026. You are trying to sterilize the environment for a tool that was built to fight in the mud.

3. The ROI Trap

The cost of waiting for perfect data is almost always higher than the cost of fixing errors later.

‎

Imagine two companies.

Company A spends 12 months scrubbing their data warehouse. They haven’t run a single model yet.

Company B launches a pilot today with “dirty” data. Their model is only 70% accurate.

‎

In a year, when Company A launches, Company B will have spent 12 months gathering user feedback. They will have retrained their model on edge cases and improved their prompts.

Company B’s model will now be 95% accurate and fully integrated into their workflow. On the other hand, Company A will have just a perfect database with a dumb model. With zero real-world experience.

‎

Data cleaning is not a gate you must pass through to enter the world of AI. It is a continuous process that happens after you launch.

The Process

So, how do you break the paralysis?

You stop treating AI implementation like a construction project (linear). And start treating it like a startup (iterative).

We call this the “Launch & Clean” Protocol.

‎

Here is the 3-step map to moving from “Analysis Paralysis” to “Actionable Intelligence” in the next 30 days.

‎

1: Define Your “Minimum Viable Data” (MVD)

Stop asking, “Is our data perfect?” Start asking, “Is our data useful?”

‎

In the startup world, we have the MVP (Minimum Viable Product). In corporate AI, you need the MVD.

• Identify the specific dataset needed for one narrow use case. E.g., “Customer Support Logs from 2024” or “Q3 Logistics Manifests”.

• Aim for 70% quality. If the data is readable by a human, it is likely readable by an LLM. Do not spend a budget cleaning historical data that might not even be relevant to the model’s output.

‎

2: Sandbox the “Dirty” Pilot

Before you clean a single row, feed your “dirty” MVD into a secure, sandboxed AI environment. Run the model. Ask it questions. Generate predictions.

‎

You will likely find that the AI ignores the formatting errors that would have broken a SQL query.

Measure the Utility, not the Cleanliness. Did the AI give a helpful answer despite the bad data? If the answer is “Yes,” you just saved yourself six months of data engineering work.

‎

3: Bring a Human in the Loop

This is the most critical shift. Instead of cleaning everything before you start, only clean the data points that cause the AI to fail.

‎

The Workflow:

1. The AI outputs a result.

2. A human expert (your “Pilot”) reviews it.

3. If the AI makes a mistake because of bad data, you clean that specific record.

4. Feed the correction back into the system.

‎

This turns your AI pilot into a data-cleaning engine.

The model identifies the gaps for you.

You only spend the budget fixing what actually matters.

Case Study

Look at one of the most successful AI implementations in history: Gmail’s spam detection.

‎

In the early days, email providers launched spam filters with very imperfect data. The system had to deal with:

• Mislabeled emails

• Inconsistent formats

• Spam tactics that changed daily.

‎

The models were far from perfect—but they were good enough to block the obvious junk. But the magic happened after the launch.

‎

Every time a user clicked “Spam” or “Not Spam,” they weren’t just organizing their inbox... they were labeling data for Google.

‎

Engineers didn’t waste years manually cleaning decades of email logs before launching. They let the model surface mistakes in the wild. They corrected only those specific errors through user feedback and retrained.

‎

The Result? Noisy data + Human-in-the-Loop feedback = The highly accurate filters we rely on today.

‎

If Google had waited for a perfectly labeled, perfectly clean dataset before launching, we’d all still be manually deleting junk mail today. Instead, they shipped an imperfect model and cleaned it later.

I have two stacks of news summaries on my desk right now.

The first stack makes me worry. It shows that over 55,000 people lost their jobs in 2025 in MNCs because of AI.

The second stack surprises me. It shows the UAE, spending huge amounts of money on AI education. It lists companies after companies crushing their market cap limits.

Something doesn’t add up here.
‎

The economy isn’t broken. It’s changing. Companies in Dubai aren’t running out of money. They’re making a trade: they’re swapping average human workers for smart AI tools.
‎

Most employees are trying to fight this change the old way. They work longer hours. They promise to be more dependable. But this strategy isn’t working anymore.
‎

Being dependable isn’t special anymore. An AI tool, today, can be dependable for $20 a month. If your main value is “consistent work” you’re no longer helpful to your company. You’re actually costing them money.
‎

I hear the same sentences every week: “Why don’t companies call me back? Why didn’t they renew my contract?”
‎

The answer is simple. You’re competing in a losing war. You need to stop competing and start leading a new path.

When we see a headline like this, we panic. It feels like a disaster.
‎

But I sit in boardrooms with company leaders. And to be honest, they aren’t feeling any disasters at all.
‎

Because companies have come up with a new way. They’re firing their employees quietly. I call it Quiet Offboarding.
‎

Companies Are Moving Their Money

In the past, layoffs meant a company was broke. That’s not true anymore. Today, layoffs are about swapping one investment for another.
‎

Imagine you own a car that needs constant repairs. Then you find an electric car that costs less to run and never breaks down. You’d sell the old car and buy the new one, right? That’s what companies are doing.
‎

They’re trading workers (the old car) for AI systems that can grow and scale (the new electric car).
‎

Look at companies like Duolingo or IBM. They didn’t cut workers because they were failing. They were redesigning how they work. Duolingo cut 10% of their contractors not to save pennies. They moved that money from paying people to buying computer power. AI could do translation work faster and cheaper.

Here’s the new reality: You’re not competing for a job against another person anymore. You’re competing for budget money against a software subscription.

The “Middle-Skill” Trap Is Getting Serious

The bar for “good enough work” is too high now.
‎

For the past twenty years, you could build a solid career on what I call “Middle Skills.”
‎

Can you write a decent email? Summarize a meeting? Organize a spreadsheet? Show up on time? You were safe. You were valuable.
‎

But today, being “reliable” puts you in danger. All those tasks, summarizing, organizing, creating drafts, now cost only $20 a month.
‎

If your work quality is “pretty good,” you’ve walked into the Middle Skills Trap. You cannot win a price war against a computer program that costs almost nothing and never sleeps.
‎

That’s where workers are right now.
‎

The Silent Removal Strategy

Companies know that big layoff announcements look bad in the news. So they’ve adopted a quieter approach. This is the “Quiet” part of Quiet Offboarding.

The government here isn’t just investing in AI—they’re building an AI Nation. The message from leadership is clear: remove inefficiency, establish the future.

In such an environment, the gap between “AI-smart” workers and “Non-AI” workers grows even faster. If you’re standing still here, you’re actually going down.

How To Shift From “Worker” to “Orchestrator”

If you want to survive this money shift, you need to change how you work.

‎
Accept that you can’t win simply by grinding harder at tasks that the market now considers free.

‎
Stop competing with machines at doing tasks. Start leading them at strategy. Become an AI Orchestrator.

‎
Here’s exactly how you make that change.

Step 1: Find Your “Zombie Tasks”

We all have them. These are tasks that make us feel busy and productive but create zero unique value. I call them “Zombie Tasks”.

‎ They look alive; they fill your calendar; but they’re actually dead weight.

‎
Print out your weekly schedule. Have a gut honest look. Circle every activity that involves:

• Summarizing data

• Scheduling meetings

• Creating first drafts

• Basic formatting

Here’s the hard part: Stop being proud of these tasks.

For years, we felt good about being “great at managing email” or “fast at writing meeting notes.” In 2025, that’s not a skill—it’s a weakness. They might make you feel useful, but the reality is different.

If you’re holding onto these tasks, you’re hurting yourself. Identify them so you can give them to AI.

Step 2: Be Intelligent & Adopt AI

There’s a simple economics rule: Price follows scarcity.

The ability to write text, create code, or do basic analysis isn’t scarce anymore. It’s available for $20 per month.

So if you’re still charging your employer your full hourly rate to do work that ChatGPT does in seconds, you’re overcharging.

This is where the “Average Crisis” hits hardest. If you refuse to use automation because “you like the old way,” you’re making yourself too expensive.

You must automate the basic work immediately. And DO NOT hide it. The value you bring isn’t the time you spend typing at your keyboard. It’s the result you deliver at the end.

Step 3: Use AI to Multiply Your Output

Most professionals use AI to finish work early so they can go & chill. Never do that.

If you use AI to do your 8-hour job in 4 hours, then you’re only proving to your boss that your role is part-time.

Instead, use that saved time to deliver more than expected.

If you usually bring one marketing plan to the meeting, use AI to build three different options. A Safe plan, an Aggressive plan, and a Creative plan. Test each one. Think through the problems with each.

Don’t use the tool to do the same work faster. Use it to do deeper work that a human alone wouldn’t have time to produce. This is how you move from “Worker” (doing the task) to “Orchestrator” (managing the outcome).
‎

Step 4: Add Your Human Touch

This is your safety net. AI is generic. You are specific.

AI has access to all the information on the internet. But you have something it doesn’t: context.

‎
The “Human USP” in the AI era comes from your ability to filter machine output through local knowledge, culture, or strategy.

‎
For example, an AI can write a perfect sales script. It can use all the right psychological tricks. But only you know if that aggressive tone will work in a traditional meeting in Riyadh versus a boardroom in New York.

‎
The machine gives you the “Global Average.” You provide the “Local Specific.”

‎
Your value lives in that filter. Never accept raw AI output.

‎

AGI Isn’t The Main Threat, Next-Gen AI is

There’s an amazing research report by Daniel Kokotajlo called AI 2027 where he predicts the arrival of AGI by 2027. Some experts believe in it, some don’t.

For example, he predicted the arrival “Agentic AI” in that report which are a real thing today.

‎ ‎

And following the trend, he predicted about an “Advanced AI” we’ll see before AGI. Something so good and so capable that it could literally replacing half of human jobs.

He predicted near-perfect AI that’ll not err like GPT 3 or 4. With GPT 5, that too seems like its materializing.

‎ ‎

Most human jobs will be lost not at the arrival of AGI but of these advanced AI not that far in the future.

The emergence of new technologies is a natural phenomena. Something that happens time and time again. Think printing press, steam engines, computers, internet and so on.

Globally, 20 million manufacturing jobs could be replaced by automated tools by 2030 (PatentPC)

Most of these automated tools are robots, not strictly AI, but some of these lost jobs will be replaced with new AI tools.

By 2030, 14% of employees will have been forced to change their career because of AI (McKinsey)

That’s 14% of the global workforce, or 375 million workers. It’s little wonder that AI courses that help workers upskill in the new technology are becoming more and more popular.

Wall Street expects to replace 200,000 roles with AI in the next 3 to 5 years (Bloomberg)

A 2025 Bloomberg Intelligence survey of 93 major banks including Citigroup, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs found that workforces would be cut by an average of 3% by 2030 at the latest. Almost 1 in 4 executives expect reductions of 5 to 10%.

AI can already do many of the senior-level jobs. And it’s just a matter of time before it becomes more reliable and contextually intelligent before it’ll overtake them too.

Eventually, anyone and everyone who does not makes this shift with AI will lose many years of his career. And eventually he will have have to make friendship with it anyway.

Ignore the highly emotional crowd who discredit anyone attempting to leverage AI in their work (especially in creative work). They are set to lose and will switch sides after a few years anyway.

Maintaining a pessimistic mindset will only lead to a destructive conformation bias and nothing else.

AGI Is Certain; Either Today Or Tomorrow

There are 2 ways how AI models improve.

• By Increasing compute (Increasing the power of hardware): More GPUs, more power, bigger data centers etc.

• By Improving Algorithms From Trainings: Using efficient methods to translate the existing computational power into performance.

AI companies are reaching the upper limits of how much hardware they can invest. From here on, it is the game of software.

‎

For the first time in history, companies are developing AI models to train their AI models. It’s a new curve. A new beginning of exponential acceleration.

‎

Over half of the recent AI progress in the world is due to these smarter software techniques.

‎

This very structure of AI models training the other AI models will lead us to the AGI.

→ GPT 6 + Open AI researchers will train GPT 7

→ By the time of GPT 8, they might not need the human researchers.

Educate Yourself Beyond The Surface Level

Most professionals today are stuck at the surface level because they fear AI. They perceive AI as something complex, technical, and incomprehensible.

And while this fact is true. But this isn’t true in most cases.

Is AI too complex? Yes, if you wanna make your own ChatGPT.

But for most professional needs its quite simple and practical.

‎

Is AI too technical? Yes, for those building AI.

Not for professionals who’ll be using polished and simplified AI products anyway.

‎

Is AI incomprehensibe? Yup. But so is microprocessors. Yet we use our smartphones seamlessly.

‎

You don’t need to learn the zeros and ones of AI, you just need to:

• Understand its mechanisms

• And master the practical aspects.

Myth 2: More Data = Better Results

You might hear, "We’re collecting everything!"

That’s not strategy. That’s hoarding.

And for that, you need the right data, not all the data.

Tesla didn’t win the self-driving race by volume alone.

It focused on quality data—edge cases, tricky weather, unexpected human behavior.

Meanwhile, many firms collect tons of irrelevant data—duplicate clicks, incomplete forms, random events—and expect their AI to "figure it out."

Here’s what to do instead:

Focus on:

• Representativeness: Does your data cover the edge cases?

• Cleanliness: Is it free from noise?

• Relevance: Does it actually matter to the decision? It it well-labelled?

• Compactness: Is your data fluff-free?

More data can just mean more bad decisions—faster.

Myth 3: Customer Clicks Are All the Data You Need

We’ve been primed to see customer clicks, saves, and purchases as the holy grail of data.

And those inputs are indeed valuable.

Not denying that.

But they aren’t everything.

‎‎

Clicks tell you “what” — but not “why.”

‎

Real transformation happens when companies connect the front-end (customer behavior) to back-end systems (inventory, delivery, operations).

That’s where ROI starts to pour in.

‎

Take Amazon, for example. It doesn’t just analyze your on-site behavior.

It tracks:

• Your buying patterns

• Delivery times

• Warehouse movements

• Customer service chats

• And much more

This full loop lets Amazon predict what you’ll want and how to deliver it in fastest possible time.

What This All Means for Business Leaders

You don’t need the best AI. ‎

You need GOOD AI along with the RIGHT data.

AI isn’t magic.

It’s a prediction engine.

And like any engine, it runs on fuel.

Bad fuel? Bad output.

Books like Prediction Machines, Human + Machine, and Competing in the Age of AI all say the same thing:

They:

• Know what to collect

• Know what to clean

• Know what to ignore

They treat data as a product, not a leftover.

Before you chase smarter models, do a simple audit…

1. Is your data fresh? (Or are you training AI on 2025 behavior?)

2. Is it accurate? (Do you have duplicates, errors, or guesswork?)

3. Is it labeled? (Do you know what’s what?)

4. Is it complete? (Do you have the full picture?)

5. Is it legal and ethical to use? (Big one— don’t skip.)

Machine Learning is kinda like that—but for computers.

It sounds tricky, but it’s really about teaching computers to get better by showing them lots of examples.

In this newsletter, I’ll explain to you Machine Learning in the easiest way.

What is Machine Learning?

Machine Learning (or ML) is a way of teaching computers to learn from examples.

Instead of telling the computer what to do step-by-step, we show it many examples.

• The computer looks at the examples

• Finds patterns

• And then figures things out by itself.

Example: Think about learning the difference between a cat and a dog.

Here’s how it went:

1. You saw many cats and dogs.

2. You noticed, “Cats are smaller, have pointy ears, and meow.

3. Dogs are bigger, bark, and wag their tails.

   ‎

A computer does the same!

We give it lots of pictures of cats and dogs.

It starts to learn the differences by spotting patterns.

Step-by-Step

Step 1: Learning from Examples

‎

First, the computer looks at many examples.

If you show it 1000 pictures of cats and dogs, it will study them carefully.

Each picture tells the computer, “This is a cat” or “This is a dog.”

‎

Just like when you were learning to tell cats and dogs apart, the computer needs lots of examples to learn.

It doesn't really understand what a cat is.

But it notices things like "most cats have pointy ears" or "dogs often have bigger noses."

Step 2: Finding Patterns

After seeing many pictures, the computer starts spotting patterns.

For example:

• Cats often have small noses.

• Dogs often have floppy ears.

• Cats’ whiskers are long.

• Dogs may have collars.

The computer makes notes of these patterns.

It remembers them to help make guesses later.

It’s a bit like how you notice that chocolate bars often come in shiny wrappers. You see it so often that your brain remembers it!

Step 3: Making Predictions

Now comes the fun part!

‎

Imagine you show the computer a brand-new picture.

It has never seen this one before.

The computer looks at the picture and thinks, “Hmm... this has pointy ears and long whiskers. It looks like the pictures labeled 'cat'.

So, I think it’s a cat!”

That’s called making a prediction.

‎

It’s not guessing randomly.

It's using what it learned from the old pictures to make a smart guess about the new picture.

Step 4: Getting Smarter Over Time

At first, the computer might make mistakes.

Maybe it thinks a small dog is a cat because they both have pointy ears.

But every time it makes a mistake and someone corrects it, the computer learns.

It updates what it knows.

It’s just like you!

When you first rode a bike, you might have fallen.

But you learned. You got better. Now you zoom around!

The more the computer practices, the better it gets at making predictions.

‎

That’s why we say Machine Learning is about "learning from experience."
